"Re-Engraving Paul Revere / Replicating the Boston Massacre"

A Slide-Lecture Presentation

(Available for Online / Zoom, or In-Person)

In 2020, Andy hand-engraved a full-size replica copperplate of Paul Revere's "Boston Massacre"

As part of the 250th Anniversary and Commemoration of the 'Incident on King Street', at the Printing Office of Edes & Gill at Faneuil Hall in Boston MA, on March 7, 2020, and as part of the exhibit "Beyond Midnight: Paul Revere" at Worcester Art Museum.

A limited edition of 250 prints were printed, and many were also hand-colored, and these are available for purchase (Printing Office online store, The History List, The Museum of Printing, and through Andy directly)

In this presentation, Andy explains how he went about researching and replicating this plate and print.  Andy's replica is one of the only hand-engraved replicas available today since the Stratton "Fac-Similie" from 1830. Everything Andy did is done exactly the same way Paul Revere did in 1770, using the same methods and materials.

Incidentally "copying" Revere the same way Revere copied Henry Pelham ("The Fruits of Arbitrary Power, or the Bloody Massacre").  Other replicas and the story behind Revere's image will also be discussed.
